I think that it has a huge impact on the culture at large... amazingly enough the word "BLING" has made it to Webster's dictionary. Hip Hop is no doubt reaching the hearts of many of our youth...unfortunately most of the messages are not good. It shows up on their MySpace pages, on their ringtones, on their YouTube videos and in their actions and conversations.

The Hip Hop industry has an enormous influence on our youth. It's sad to say that most of the influence is negative(coveting, sex, drugs, murder, violence, conceit, etc), but I know it did play a big part in more people getting out and voting this year, so it has the ability to influence in a positive way as well. I'm all Gospel Rap forever though!!!

Oh and to the young Christians (and old) y'all reppin Lil Wayne and all of the other worldly rappers way too much and he ain't talking bout nothin important, so please support our gospel/holy hip hop artist more. Thanks and God bless.

Yeah i totally agree with yall. And Curvine This guy I met in Dallas during YFN 07 Made a song about this titled Pop Culture.
Pop culture song synopsis
"POP CULTURE

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE
2 Corinthians 4:4
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

SONG SYNOPSIS
The inspiration for this song came about one day while I was driving to Chick-fil-A.
I was by myself and decided to flip through the secular radio stations just to peer in on what was going on within the culture. Immediately I was bombarded with sex, drugs, expensive spending habits, violence and every other empty fascination that you could think of. But this was no surprise, since I, myself, had once been engulfed in that way of life and was familiar with what it had to offer. It was when I parked my car that day and walked into the mall that it hit me: The generation apart from Christ is truly (and literally) a slave to whatever fixates them the most. They dress how the rapper tells them to dress. They talk how the culture tells them to talk. And the image that they try so hard to push is only borrowed from their favorite pop icon. Throw in the MySpace trend, along with the Ipod craze, and infatuation with cell phones, and you have a robot generation controlled by the entity known as Pop Culture. And sad to say, even the church is affected by this deadly epidemic. Pop Culture has its filthy grip around the throat of America's youth; and even young adults alike are swayed by it's pull. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with MySpace or owning an Ipod; it's just when we allow things or ideas to allure us in such a manner, those very things can easily become idols in our lives. And if we're not careful, we will find ourselves worshipping "the created" when we were made to worship "The Creator". So my goal in creating this song was to unveil the plot of Satan to steal this generation by captivating their minds with prime time television, video games, movies, music, and anything else with vivid sound and high definition color. I wrote it from an aggressive 1st person perspective, in hopes of catching the listeners' ear and capturing their heart in order to make known the present threat that dwells in their living room.

LYRICS
Good morning America! I'm pleased to introduce-
Myself as the reason for your wayward youth.
Some know me as entertainment's spokesman.
Some call me "Pop". But you can call me "Culture"
Feeding on the minds of your children like a vulture,
As they recline in your living room sofa.
Parents, I'ma be blunt and cut it right to the chase,
I do it for the children, so please stay in your place.
Kids, Hello and welcome to the show.
In the following I'ma teach you all you need to.
This life is full of ups and downs, without a doubt,
But if you find yourselves down for the count follow the crowd.
Here's my hand. I'll lead you to a land, flowing with filth and money,
So Honey, bring a friend. And trust me-
Oh I know what's best. I teach kids all the time how to talk and dress.

You can find me in your Ipod, Internet, even your MySpace.
It don't take much for me to creep in that God space.
Television, videos, even your cell phones. Internet sites when there's no one else home.
This is the altar of Pop Culture. The price seems cheap but baby it's gonna cost you!
So come and join the parade; lets march to the rhythm of self-gratification.
Forward march…

Parents… I'd be more than happy, to baby sit those kids for the price of nothing.
You've had a hard day and hey, I understand that-
you've got to have a life outside of the family.
So hey, go ahead. Paint the town red. Go party at the bar until you fall out Dad.
Go all out Mama, don't worry bout a thing, I'ma be sure to see those kids to bed.
From white suburbia into the projects, I infiltrate households with minimal conflict.
That "explicit lyrical content", doesn't mean a thing.
I've become your teen's spiritual God-head.

Young people put on your matching suits, because we're about to march to your demise.
You're lemmings. And me, I'm your leader.
I got this whole generation dangling from my fingers."

If all glory is given to God and the music/song whether gospel hip-hop or traditional will reach the ears of of many -- the tune will incline as those ministering through music are letting their light shine. It will be sweet music to the ear for both youthful and adult ears. The message in the music will be effective when it edifies God. We must "sing a new song" and sometimes a "new tune" rejoicing in the Lord leading others to righteouness. Psalms 33:1-3 Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. Praise ye the Lord with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. Sing unto him a new song: play skilfully with a loud noise.

As instruments of praise, we should always include "GOD"...in the song and not omit it. If God (the Lord, Saviour, Comforter, Prince of Peace, Holy One...) is not included in the song do you feel the "real message" will be lost? How will those needing direction get the message about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, if He is never mentioned?

I so agree with you Pastor and First Lady! I love the song Never Would Have Made It, but I realized that God, Savior, Comforter, etc was never mentioned once in the song. Which makes the song an inspirational song and not a gospel song in my opinion. I don't believe a song is gospel if it doesn't mention God.

Servant of God - Kim,

We too agree with you...Inspirational songs will inspire, encourage and refresh the hearts, minds and spirits of listeners and gospel will feed the soul with biblical messages that will not only encourage, refresh, restore, and renew...gospel will entice a listener to "press toward the mark", "seek first the kingdom of God"..."enter into His gates with thanksgiving...serving God... The definition of inspiration states, "inspiration - divine guidance -- Therefore, if God is guiding...in the song He will not be "hiding." As saints, we should let it be known who we represent every opportunity we get and in all ways acknowleging Him..."the author and finisher of our faith." We need both inspirational and gospel songs -- to soothe, santify, and serve for the purpose of encouragement. We are encouraged to by songs such as "Never Would Have Made It (Sapp), I'm Lost Without You (CeCe), I Want To Give You More (Moss)...and are thankful to God for allowing "messengers" of music such as Marvin Sapp to reach beyond the "christian circle" and extend the message that earthly we need others to survive - parents, friends, sisters, brothers, prayer warriors...the list goes on - We all have a purpose and we all will make an impact on someone's life -- Our prayer is that the impact is positive one. -- Be Blessed!
