I just found out today that there is a hurricane (Ike) headed towards Houston. Although this is new information to me, apparently it has had a lot of people nervous for a week or so.

What most people don't realize about my wife and I is that we don't have cable. Most news we hear from other people, the radio or the Internet. What I have found is that, in general, the media is great for promoting fear. Therefore, I have placed myself on a "low information diet."

Not that there isn't any relevant information found on your local new station; I've found that the majority of news stories are negative or unnecessary.

News channels have a habit of playing the top stories (which or usually natural disasters or political scandals) OVER AND OVER AGAIN. It's actually quite humorous at times; CNN has become more and more like ESPN SportsCenter over the years; wait around for an hour or so and you are guaranteed to hear the same story recycled throughout the program to the point of exhaustion.

In a nutshell, I've learned to place my trust in the Creator who "changes the times and the seasons" to protect me in the wake of natural disaster. I've purposed to rely on the Master who "removes kings and raises up kings" more than on the politicians who seek to gain my vote.

Not that I won't prepare for the hurricane. We have already purchased flashlights, batteries, canned food and bottled water.

Not that I am not following the political process, either. I have closely analyzed the platforms of both presidential candidates and will make an informed decision in November.

Ultimately, I will choose to trust God above all...and for that reason, I ain't "scurred."
